Off-duty Ottawa Police officer nabbed for stunt driving

It was out in Orleans yesterday (Tuesday) in the nice weather where an off-duty Ottawa Police officer was nabbed for stunt driving.

Apparently the man was going 202km/h on his motorcycle on the 174.

He's been assigned to administrative duties 'till further notice... also had his bike taken away... lost his licence for a week (standard procedures for that charge.)

Weekend Fatal Hit and Run in Constance Bay

A young mother of twin boys was killed in a hit and run in Constance Bay early Sunday.

Happened around 2am. Police say the woman (26-year-old Erin Vance) was walking with her boyfriend on Bayview Drive, when an SUV went off the road and struck her.

The driver of the SUV (a 23 year old man) then fled on foot. He's since turned himself into police and will appear in court Tuesday to face various charges including impaired driving, criminal negligence causing death, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Gregson: guilty

It took nine hours of deliberation for a jury here in Ottawa to come up with a verdict for Kevin Gregson.

Guilty.

That means life in prison for the man convicted of killing Ottawa Police Constable Eric Czapnik.
Czapnik’s widow told the court “there is one statement that I agree on with my husband’s killer. Eric was a good man.”

No name burger/steakette recall

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has expanded its health hazard alert regarding possible E. coli contamination.

Heavy damage in south-end fire

A fire that started in the basement of a south end home has caused over half a million in damages ($600,000.)

Happened yesterday (Monday) afternoon on Kemp Drive. No one was home, but firefighters had to wait for the fire to burn through the basement and much of the house before hitting it with water from the roof.

The investigation continues today.

Did you feel it? Probably not.

Officials say it was only a 3.2 magnitude earthquake that hit just northwest of Buckingham, QC around 7pm Tuesday.

No injuries or damage was reported.
