Driver likely drunk

People around the area where a cyclist was hit yesterday afternoon say the man driving the car was anything but sober. That driver is now keeping a police cell company while the 31 year old guy who was hit is in hospital fighting for his life. Service Ottawa makes things simple

The City of Ottawa is making many services more convenient by opening a new section on its website called Service Ottawa Residents can now report potholes, pay a parking ticket, report graffiti, register for a class and more.  Up until now, these things had to be done in person or over the phone.  Check out their site at www.ottawa.ca - Service Canada section is on the right hand side.   Read more here...

Cyclist injured on Carling

A 31 year-old cyclist is in hospital with a life-threatening injury after being hit by a car on Carling Avenue this afternoon. The man suffered a head injury and then had a seizure en route to hospital, where he was still unconscious in critical condition upon arrival.  Read more here...

Teen racer found guilty

An Ottawa teen has been found guilty of dangerous driving in a high-speed accident that killed another teen driver. But 19-year-old Kareem Alli was acquitted of the more serious charge of criminal negligence causing death. Alli's Mustang was speeding along side 18-year-old Christian Williams' Honda C-R-X in June 2010. Williams died when his car hit a concrete lamp post.    Read more here...

Water rates set to rise

Water rates in Ottawa are expected to go up by 6% this year and you can expect annual increases for the next decade. The 2012 hike means the average resident will be paying $37.82 more than the year before. City treasurer Marian Similuk told the committee that staff are proposing to invest $2.1 billion over the next 10 years to take care of the the city’s water and sewer system, which has an asset value of $18 ...
