Who's Gonna Find Out jumps onto a late-'90s trend that's annoying to many indie purists, issuing a three-song 7" as a CD single. Opposing this process, however, seems more than a little pretentious --
Holiday's gorgeous and utterly sweet pop tunes are bound to appeal to an audience slightly wider than indie lovers who regularly buy vinyl, and the tracks on
Who's Gonna Find Out are no exception. The title track is a spectacular slice of pure, unassuming pop, packed with jangling guitars, '60s-style hooks, and even handclaps; "Saturday" hits the same high points, in a slightly more low-key fashion; and "Expose" is the sort of gentle ballad that lends some depth to indie pop beyond its hooky charm.
Holiday have proven themselves as one of the most perfect and definitive bands within the indie pop or twee genre, and given the release of some of their singles on CD, and the fair availability of their full-lengths, their appeal has the potential to spread beyond the rather insulated pop scene and into wider territory.
