For the album's title track,
Gary U.S. Bonds turned to
Little Steven (
Van Zandt), who wrote, arranged, played lead guitar, and produced it, some of the same tasks he had undertaken for
Bonds' previous two albums. As a result, the performance had much of the drive of the anthemic songs on
Little Steven's solo albums. For the rest, on which he was co-billed with his backup band, the American Men,
Bonds was for the first time his own boss, and he proved he could come up with sturdy rock & roll songs, although nothing to match his early hits or the songs
Bruce Springsteen wrote for him in the early '80s.
