Album Review

After bassist Pete Way exited UFO during the early '80s, he eventually resurfaced as a founding member of Waysted. With the group's albums becoming increasingly hard to locate on CD over the years, the 2008 box set Totally Waysted will come in handy for veteran metalheads. Featuring three discs in total, the set includes their 1983 debut, Vices (which is considered by many to be the band's best release); a concert recording entitled Live at St. David's Hall, Cardiff 07/10/84 on the second disc; and a third disc, entitled The Save Your Prayers Sessions, consisting of recordings done for their 1986 studio album,Save Your Prayers. As expected, there are quite a few tunes here that would have fit perfectly on a UFO album, especially "Love Loaded," "Sleazy," and "Out of Control." But elsewhere, it appears as though Way's split from his longtime band served as a bit of kick in the keister for the bassist, as such speedy ditties as "Toy with Passion" and "Walls Fall Down" prove (and sound comparable to another underrated band from the same era, Riot). For a faithful sampling of post-UFO Pete Way, Totally Waysted is recommended.
