Royal Swans Released Into Rideau River Today
Today is the day when the Royal Mute Swans get out of the barn and into the Rideau!  Mayor Watson released the Swans at 11:30 this morning at Brewer Park.  Having the swans grace our Rideau is a 48 year tradition. Queen Elizabeth gave us six pair of Royal Mute Swans 1967.  The gift was meant to commemorate her visit to Ottawa to join the celebrations of Canada's 100th birthday. We are now many generations into the Royal Swan family tree.  The 'Swan Keepers' ask that we don't feed bread to them....
