Thanks to scammers and high-pressure door-to-door salespeople the Province is toying with the idea of banning it altogether.
Unfortunately there have been too many elderly and vulnerable people out there getting taken advantage of by high pressure scammers with locked in contracts.
Door to door sales have been a huge part of the Sales Industry over the years. Business like Amway, Avon, Kirby were built on it and many people made entire careers out of it!
I know when I ran for City Council here in Ottawa, I knocked on hundreds and hundreds of doors and it was critical.
Funny, but I thought I’d hate it; but in fact I actually got to like it.
People one on one are usually rather nice, polite and generally easy to talk to.
So I’d hate to see us gate ourselves up completely because that interaction is important.
We should feel like we CAN walk up someone’s drive from time to time. That’s community.
It’s called the PUTTING CONSUMERS FIRST ACT and it has been passed.
It’s just awaiting legal details that would finish it. And it would see the sales of Furnaces, AC and Water Systems banned at the door.
Which I agree with. Something that big you really need to consult with several companies and get prices.
