A drowning bird in the Halifax harbour was too much to bear for Erik Nolan. Even though he was on shift at a waterfront restaurant, he stripped down to his boxers and swam out for a rescue.
Turns out the young seagull was caught in fishing line and even had a hook puncture in it’s foot.
In a news story about the rescue, it’s reported that:
Nolan said his sense of empathy prompted the rescue and it bothered him that a crowd was standing by and watching the bird drown.
He had to swim back for something that could cut the line and remove the hook. In the few minutes it took to accomplish that, 23 year old Erik Nolan captured the hearts of thousands. His display of good character makes him serious boyfriend material in my books!
A rescue group gave the bird a once over and released it back to the wild. Erik’s friend captured the whole thing on video.
