Astronaut Julie Payette was sworn in as our new Governor General this morning. Did you know that every GG gets a coat of arms? Take a look, and I’m sure you’ll agree that all of her achievements make for a pretty bad ass decoration! What a great tattoo this would make for her.
‘Through hardship to the stars’ is the perfect motto for Julie Payette’s coat of arms and her life.
This video explains how it was created.
Gender parity seems to have come to the Governor General’s office before many places, as 4 of the last 7 GG’s have been women.
Julie Payette has achieved so much in her life. Did you know that she holds 27 honorary degrees?
Ottawa celebrated her swearing in with a 21 gun salute and a fly by by Canada’s CF-18’s. Those having lunch on downtown patios were treated to all the pomp and ceremony today on a warm and sunny autumn day.
The role of Governor General is also known as Commander-In-Chief.
Outgoing Governor General David Johnston and his wife Sharon were loved for their casual grace and philanthropic leadership. Their dog Rosie clearly enjoyed her time living at Rideau Hall with it’s park like setting. All three of them were involved in planting a ceremonial departure tree.
