What a great time of year!
Hockey has returned, and I stopped by the Sensplex on the way into work today to get a first look at the 2017-18 Ottawa Senators.
One thing that very much struck me, was how ready these guys are to go.
The pace was dynamic; the players whirling, grinding, seemingly never stopping. The drills ran constantly and were concurrent.
And all this on day 1! Very impressive.
Have a look:
57 players hit the ice, in two groups, on two different ice surfaces at the Sensplex in Kanata.
Clarke MacArthur wasn’t one of them. He failed his physical yesterday and his future, again, is hanging in the air. So sad. He’s been one of the most popular guys to ever pull that trojan on; no pun intended.
But there’s some opportunity for some young guns.
Young guns Thomas Chabot, Nick Paul, Logan Brown will get long looks, as will this guy.
Here is 2015 1st Rounder Colin White:
57 Players skated. Obviously no Erik Karlsson. He hasn’t skated yet following off season surgery. Also recovering and not participating is Derick Brassard. Ryan Dzingel was on the ice.
Let’s look at a couple of the drills:
That is Andrew Hammond (The Hamburgler) #30 leading the twirl and before that we saw a very nice goal from #74 Mark Borowiecki
Stay posted, I will keep you up to date with more info from Sens Camp and don’t forget your chance to see your team is on Sunday for “Fan Day” at the CTC. The drills and scrimmages, and lots for the kids — it all starts at 10am and runs into the afternoon.
Go Sens Go!
