Following the (repeated) landfall of “Hurricane Harvey” Texas received an unprecedented amount of rainfall.
Houston is not a city that is equipped to handle much rain, but to be honest, what city is equipped for more than 50 inches of rain? As we witnessed here in Ottawa in May, once the ground gets totally soaked and the rivers come up, it has nowhere left to go.
That’s like 130 cm’s. Over 1,200 mm’s of rain!!!
As we have seen, in natural disasters, people pull together. The kindness is infectious and heart warming. Celebrities who are Texans have really stepped up, as have many others who are not.
President Trump kicked in a million of his own money. Houston Texan superstar J.J. Watt has led the charge in raising over 14 million, when he only set out to gather a couple hundred thousand.
The Kardashian’s finally did something that didn’t annoy us.
They kicked in $500,000.
Wanna see something wild, and kinda scary? Thanks to Google Earth and Global News we have an overlay of what that amount of rain would look like in Toronto. And it’s not pretty.
Good news is; the flood waters are receding and the weather is looking up in South Texas.
