“Hurricane Harvey” is 4 hours from landfall, which they are expecting at around 11 est.
It has been heightened to a “Category 4” Hurricane.
Wind speeds are currently reaching up to 135 mph and FEMA is predicting disaster-level impact which could deliver “life threatening conditions,” 8 foot swells, flooding and millions of dollars in damage.
The cities of Corpus Christi, Galveston, Beaumont, Brownsville and Houston may be seeing the worst of it.
The Sheriff in Corpus Christie has warned residents to “ride it out” if they’ve not yet evacuated.
So it doesn’t look good for Texas.
FEMA is calling this a certain hit; potential disaster
This is Donald Trump’s first national disaster, and he plans to arrive in Texas next week to view the damage.
Remember Hurricane Charley which hit Florida in 2004 was also a Cat 4 storm.
Superstorm Sandy hit New York City in the Fall of 2012, and ended up costing $65 billion dollars with 8.5 million customers without power, some for weeks.
Hurricane Katrina caused huge damage and a large loss of life in 2005, and was only a Category 3, but because it hit the lowlands of Louisiana, it was catastrophic.
A Hurricane hit nearly the same spot in 1900 (called the “Galveston Hurricane”) and was also a “Cat 4” and an estimated 8,000 to 12,000 lives!
