They have names!
How cute are these little furballs?!
I had a chance to see them earlier this week – this is the blog I posted about it:
Last week Tuesday, the LRT crew on Cyrville Rd uncovered an adorable and furry surprise –
– a mama and her 6 kittens!
They were taken in by Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue and are currently being cared for by volunteer Claire. I had a chance to stop by yesterday to see how mom and babes are doing. (Mom had been having a bit of a rough go – poor thing is TINY – she’s been wolfing down the food, which hasn’t completely agreed with her, but she’s nursing well.)
Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue was started by Dr. Katie Jones 6 1/2 years ago.
The organization’s mission statement is to:
1. Get adoptable cats off the streets and into homes.
2. Manage stray cat colonies.
By the numbers:
total # of cats cared for: 2443
total # of cats adopted: 1977
total # of trap-neuter-release cats: 287
average time in shelter: 84 days
cats currently in care: 143
They’ve currently got a roster of about 200 member volunteers – but they’re always looking for more, so if you think this might be up your alley, contact them! (I love fostering. For me, it’s perfect – I get to do something helpful, enjoy cuddle time with kittens/cats, and then give them back.) I still like the freedom of being able to go away on vacation and not worry about cat care, so it really is the best of both worlds!
