We have a hobby farm in West Ottawa; chickens, ducks, horses, turkey, a dog, cats and a pig.
It seemed we were missing a couple of our egg laying chickens.
They’d been missing for a couple of weeks, not showing up to the coop for roll call during taps.
So naturally we started to wonder if the ‘big bad wolf’ was around for a couple of Swiss Chalet dinners. They’re addicted to the sauce.
Worse yet, one of them was my middle kids favourite too. She named her Helen, after our Aunt Helen. The other I call the grey pigeon.
So, this morning as I am finishing up my noon time chores; my daily ritual before I head into the city for work, and I caught sight of one, and then the other.
“Hey YOU, nice to see yah!”
And what do you know, 7 little chicks behind the “grey pigeon.”
I guess the birds went off to hide and roost.
I won’t lie to you, I was quite happy to see Helen and the Grey Pigeon alive today and with that little bonus on-top. I guess we have more chickens.
