Some Ottawa city councillors had a hard time sitting in the council chamber on Wednesday knowing that a “Pro Life” flag was blowing in the wind outside of City Hall on Laurier.
In fact, Catherine McKenney said she couldn’t stand it anymore and had to speak up and do something about it. She got 6 of her colleagues to sign a “Letter of Protest” which was sent to the Mayor.
Catherine McKenney, Tobi Nussbaum, Diane Deans, Mathieu Fleury, Marianne Wilkinson, Jeff Leiper and Jan Harder all signed this letter.
The Mayor has already replied, without editorializing or showing any particular position and he has asked the City Solicitor to review the City Policy on “flags.”
This report should be in inside 30 days.
This is just the kind of topic that no one needs any City weighing in on.
We should always separate church and state. The Mayor is too good to get caught up in this. He is the consummate politician.
