On Sunday in Cleveland, 37 yr.old Steve Stephens ‘just snapped’ and shot an unsuspecting senior citizen on Facebook Live. Today in Erie County Pennsylvania, Stephens was spotted, chased by police and then chose to take his own life. He shot himself.
The video he posted of himself killing Robert Godwin Sr., 74, a former foundry worker who had 10 children was up on Facebook Live for 3 or 4 hours for all to see.
Stephens’s motivation remains unclear, but it appears as though he was acting to spite a woman in his life, as he had Godwin repeat a woman’s name just before he pulled the trigger on him.
Unfortunately the fear now is that there will be more and more people using social media as a platform for their meltdowns, crimes and transgressions.
Copycat offenders are expected.
In cases such as these, people are looking to grandstand their final act, and in this day and age the social media provides the perfect stage.
