Emergency regulations come into effect immediately for drone operators. As of now, recreational drone operators CAN NOT:
- Fly higher than 90 metres
- Fly within 75 metres of people, animals, buildings or vehicles
- Fly closer than 9 km of any airport, heliport, or any air strip landing/take off area
- Drone owners must clearly mark their drones with contact information
It appears that changes are coming south of the border too, but maybe not heading in the same direction.
Drones create an invasion of privacy that is unprecedented. Last year a drone buzzed my head on my own property. The new rules make that an illegal move. I like the new rules, especially because they include animals. Drones operators have been reported harassing wildlife who are frightened and will do anything to avoid the aircraft, include putting themselves and their young in danger.
