The 401 is still closed (both ways) after yesterdays pile up in Lansdowne, Ontario (Mallorytown & 1,000 Islands).
Authorities expect the closure will continue into the evening tonight.
A 30 car pileup yesterday afternoon (Tues. Mar. 14) ended with 1 fatality, and several people still in hospital, some in serious condition.
Many of the injuries befell the First Responders who were first on the scene.
A “Multiple Casualty Team” was called as was Hazmat due to the chemical spill that happened as a result of this giant, multiple accident.
This stretch of Highway is known for bad conditions, white outs and fog and in bad conditions, it doesn’t’ take much for vehicles to start piling up.
There was another pileup in Magog, 50 cars on a Quebec highway, also yesterday afternoon.
It’s amazing more weren’t killed.
There was a 100 car pile up North of Toronto on the 400 a couple years ago.
Another miracle that no one was killed. Everyone must have been slowing down due to the conditions at time.
Kind of lucky yesterday in some respects.
The big one in 99 on the 401 near Tilbury and Windsor cost 8 lives in heavy fog.
Oh, and one other piece of encouraging news; all the animals made it also.
