Ontario Doctors aren’t allowed strike, but they are preparing for job action which could affect you. They just emailed out an open letter to us which you can read here.
My Doctor is fed up with not being able to provide timely care. Our family doctors are fighting for better health care for US. Will you support THEM and talk to your MP?
We’ve been hearing for years that the medical system that we are used to in Ontario is simply not sustainable. Long wait times for critical tests, and just try to get an appointment with a dermatologist in Ottawa…I did, it took 8 months!
According to Dr. Rachel Foreman, the Ontario Medical Association spokesperson, “Ontario has a growing and aging population, and each year, 140,000 new patients join our health-care system. The government is funding less than one half of the growth of the system.”
Is there a political party brave enough to implode the failing system we have and create something new and sustainable? Is it time to allow some private money in to ease the burden? They already do in Quebec. There you can get an MRI within a day if you want to get out of the public line and pay for it yourself. Guess where all of our athletes go?
Last year the government demonized our doctors by releasing ‘how much they bill’ as if those numbers were their salaries. Office rents, employees salaries, and other small business costs need to be deducted so it was very misleading.
The truth of the matter is that many doctors make the same as civil servants, just check out the sunshine list. In Ontario, the average family physician’s gross pay is $271 000 but after costs it’s closer to $150 000 which gets further reduced by income tax (close to 50%).
I say they deserve more compensation and should be able to count on our support in their fight for better health care for all of us.
