An Ottawa Police Officer has been charged in connection with the death of Abdirahman Abdi, a 37 year old Somali-Canadian man who scuffled with Police last summer.
Constable Daniel Montsion, a member of the Dart Team (Direct Action Response Team) as part of the Guns & Gangs Unit has been charged by Ontario’s police watchdog with three counts (including manslaughter) in last summers controversial police take-down which started in a popular Ottawa coffee shop, and resulted in the man’s death.
The other officer, Dave Weir, was not charged.
Montsion was also charged by Special Investigations Unit (SIU) with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. He had been on desk duty throughout the investigation, and is scheduled to appear in Court on March 29.
