Surprise ending or not, the Oscar numbers are in and they are about as bad as the ending of last nights show.
The 89th Annual Academy Awards brought in an average of 32.9 million viewers according to ABC.
Those are the second lowest ratings numbers in Oscar history.
Maybe they’ll be happy that less people were tuned into one of the most awkward moments in the history of life television.
The worst ratings, by the way, belong to the Jon Stewart hosted 2008 show.
That was the year “No Country For Old Men” won Best Picture.
Not sure, but I have a feeling that people may have been frightened away by Javier Bardem’s bowl cut that year? Just a thought.
According to Nielsen that year averaged 32 million.
Kimmel was pretty good if you like low-key with less schmaltz…but maybe he was right in the way he signed off. He said, in his charming self deprecating way, that he knew he’d screw it up and would never be invited back again.
He may be more prophetic than he thinks he is.
