It will be a dream setting to see a legendary band. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will play RBC Bluesfest as part of their 40th Anniversary Tour!! They will close the festival on Sunday July 16th, no doubt on a hot summer night under the stars and along the Ottawa River at Lebreton Flats. This will be a night to remember, and I’d bet on record attendance because it’s been a long wait, 36 years!
THE LAST TIME IN OTTAWA –
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers ‘Hard Promises’ tour played the Ottawa Civic Centre on July 20th, 1981. New Zealand’s Split Enz featuring brothers Tim and Neil Finn opened the show. This is the very last appearance here by the band. What took so long?!
If you were 16 when you saw the last Petty show here in Ottawa, you would be 52 years old today. Unless you’ve travelled to see Tom Petty, chances are most people in Ottawa have never seen Petty live. Tickets go on sale Friday morning.
Songs ‘Don’t Do Me Like That’, ‘Refugee’, ‘Here Comes My Girl’ & ‘Breakdown/Hit The Road Jack’ were on the set list for most nights of the 1981 tour. Tom Petty had some fun with cover songs too, featuring ‘Good good lovin’ by James Brown, ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’ by the Animals, ‘Not Fade Away’ by Bo Diddley & ‘Needles & Pins’ by Jackie DeShannon on several occasions. Here is a detailed list of songs on the ‘Hard Promises’ tour, however the exact set list for Ottawa is missing.
