Lots of snow in 2016/2017 — and more on the way!
The weather may play a part in the numbers, but without doubt it has been a tragic season in Ontario so far.
In our province snowmobiling fatalities are up by 50% so far.
The OPP report that 14 people have died, up from 8 at this time last year — including an 11 year old girl who was crossing a major highway and was struck by a transport truck.
Like Ottawa, there is also tons of snow up north so more people, no doubt, are getting out.
Regardless, the basic safety rules should always be observed or accidents and death can easily occur.
The OPP report that drivers often go off trails, exceed the 50 km/per hour speed limit, drive under the influence, or don’t use the trails properly, resulting in head-on collisions.
Other accidents include crashes with cars and other vehicles, and snowmobiles falling through thin ice.
Don’t drink and sled!
