I’ll say it. I was spoiled.
Not in a bratty way. (At least, I don’t think in a bratty way!)
I don’t know if it was luck, or what, but being the third child (and born quite a few years after the first two), maybe my parents were just more chill, but I didn’t really have chores. I remember there was a schedule of chores but – unless I’ve just blocked it from my mind – I feel like my name was never on it. It was mostly my sisters. Taking turns doing basic things. Loading/unloading the dishwasher was the main one.
Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure that was the ONLY chore. (Well, dishwasher and setting/clearing the table). Because the rest – keeping our rooms decent, generally being somewhat helpful – were just a given. Which is why I love this video – a kid discovers that his friend gets paid to do chores – so he tells his dad that HE wants to do chores so that he too, can get paid. But the dad says NO.
See in the video below:
WATCH VIDEO: Listen to this kid explain why his dad won’t pay him to do chores – and what he WILL pay him for instead.
Thoughts? Do you pay your kids to do chores? Will this change your mind?
Here are more parents who weigh in on both sides.
