Like Johnny Bower, the moon is older than we first thought.
Conventional scientific wisdom had the moon pegged anywhere from 100 to 200 million years old, but thanks to the Moon rocks collected by Apollo 14 back in 1971, UCLA has had them uranium lead dated and Old Man Moon…is very much an older man.
Apollo 14’s Alan Shepard and Edgar Mitchell collected 92 pounds of rocks in two spacewalks that covered nine hours outside the module in February of 1971.
Research teams reported Wednesday that have determined the moon formed within 60 million years of the birth of the solar system, and man were we ever off!
Not 200 million years old, more like 4.51 BILLION YEARS OLD!!!!!!
I guess that was a bit of a miss. A four billion three hundred million kinda miss.
Would that make Johnny Bower 200? (;
