The one Toronto Blue Jay that I really, really wanted back (and I know that I’m not alone) was Edwin Encarnacion.
I get that it’s time to move on beyond the “Joey Bats era,” but EE is not 37, he’s 33 years of age.
The writing was on the wall when the Blue Jays went out and signed Free Agent DH Kendrys Morales, but I still held out hope.
The Jays reportedly had offered $80 Million over 4 years, but EE and his camp held tough looking for more coin and more term — and that is when the Jays went out and signed Morales and now Steve Pearce, the former Baltimore Oriole.
If this is indeed the end for the E-wing in Toronto, he will leave as one of the franchises most accomplished. He is third on the Blue Jays’ all-time home run list with 239, and sixth on the team’s all-time RBI list with 679.
I understand the need for some ‘small ball’ in T.O and guys who can hit Lefties but with Bautista and Edwin leaving, the Blue Jays are definitely lacking some pop.
In fact, Bautista and EE accounted for a remarkable 127 combined Home Runs in the past two seasons.
They have some homers and thump to make up for.
