Captain Thomas McQueen followed his Grandfathers steps and joined the Canadian Military. His family issued a statement today and said it was all he ever wanted to do.
His Grandfather served the Air Force in WWII and young Tom was said to constantly doodle Jet Fighters on his homework. He made it through through Air Cadets at 611 Squadron, and never wavered.
Tom and the McQueen family are from Hamilton, Ontario. He was engaged to be married to his fiance’ Kaitlin who said that ‘he passed doing what he loved.’
Captain Thomas McQueen, RCAF Fighter Pilot, crashed his CF-18 Hornet at Cold Lake, Alberta on Monday. The 1o year vet went down while training and was just about to embark in his training for a higher command position.
A total of 19 CF-18 Hornets have crashed since the RCAF began to acquire the fleet of aircraft in 1982. Twelve of those crashes, including nine fatalities, involved aircraft from 4 Wing Cold Lake.
The Liberal government is currently looking at ways to replace and prolong the lives of the aging planes.
