Another blow to Ottawa’s esteemed Byward Market.
The “Real Sports Bar” has closed it’s doors, permanently.
It was opened with great fanfare almost four years ago by (ironically) Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.
It boasted almost 100 HD TV screens, a VIP lounge and a $600,000 kitchen and was designed to be ‘the place to be.’ It was also known for having the City’s largest HD TV Screen.
However, unlike the uber successful Toronto version, this one wasn’t anywhere near an NHL Hockey Rink — which may have been the ultimate problem.
The George Street bar has recently been getting offered up to local entrepreneurs but no takers could be found.
MLSE has not commented to date.
The Market has been seeing some rough times with closures of Restaurants and Bars and also some terrible pub due to proliferating crime in the area.
