Remember Obama’s visit to the Nations Capital in 2009?
This town went crazy. He was a rock star and we all certainly remember that day well.
8 years later it’s probably time to prepare for the arrival of the next President of the United States.
It certainly is the talk of the town.
Inauguration Day is Friday, January 20th.
Donald Trump’s election victory could make for some interesting changes and alterations to the now constant and ongoing planning for next year and the City of Ottawa’s plans for Canada’s 150th.
Now we know that Trump is probably not much of a traditionalist, but it is tradition that Canada gets the first foreign visit from the new US Presidents.
Expect it to be more expensive than the Obama visit which cost us $3 million in security and policing.
It certainly won’t be the love-in we saw in 09, there could be demonstrations and protest. That gets costly.
As you can imagine, the planning for a Presidential Visit goes on for months and month and there are many American agencies to consult with.
It’s tons of work in an already busy year.
Get ready for Trump Ottawa. Like an in-law, if they’re coming, you can’t say no.
