You may have watched Gord Downie with Mansbridge on “The National” last week.
In a touching, honest, poignant and sad interview, our good Canadian hero touched on his latest Solo Project entitled “The Secret Path.”
This past summer at the ‘final Hip Show’ in the bands hometown Downie made reference to his interests in the growing national concern for indigenous Canadians and the many different indigenous issues which are plaguing places and reserves — that many of us have never even heard of.
In this song and video (in fact over the entire record) Downie shines a light on the story of Chanie Wenjack. “Charlie” is a young native member of the Cree Nation (near Kenora) who went to school 600 km from home.
He met his demise when he tried to walk home to escape that experience.
The Secret Path will air on CBC at 9pm Sunday, October 23rd.
