If listening to the Road Trip Weekend got you in the mood to get behind the wheel for a journey of your own, but you aren’t able to take time off, maybe watching one of these movies will be good enough for now.
This is a list of some of my favourite road trip films, in no particular order.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
A man must struggle to travel home for Thanksgiving with an obnoxious slob of a shower curtain ring salesman as his only companion.
National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983)
The Griswold family’s cross-country drive to the Walley World theme park proves to be much more arduous than they ever anticipated.
Almost Famous (2000)
A high-school boy is given the chance to write a story for Rolling Stone Magazine about an up-and-coming rock band as he accompanies it on their concert tour.
Into the Wild (2007)
After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life.
Rain Man (1988)
Selfish yuppie Charlie Babbitt’s father left a fortune to his savant brother Raymond and a pittance to Charlie; they travel cross-country.
The Blues Brothers (1980)
Jake Blues, just out from prison, puts together his old band to save the Catholic home where he and brother Elwood were raised.
