21 years ago. . . In 1995, “News Radio” with the amazing Canadian-born actors (the late) Phil Hartman and Dave Foley premiered on NBC. It was a clever, well-written sitcom that dealt with the daily goings-on of a New York City radio station. Phil was an SNL alumnist, Foley worked with The Kids in the Hall. The cast of characters also included the annoying Andy Dick, a young Joe Rogan and the King of sarcasm Jon Lovitz. It received critical acclaim but faded to black when ratings stumbled in it’s fifth season. That may have been due to the fact that in 1998, Phil Hartman was killed by his wife. An aside: Jon Lovitz would go on to beat the tar out of Andy Dick .. because he blamed Andy for Phil’s death. He says Andy got Phil’s wife Brynn re-hooked on cocaine. She later MURDERED Phil, then killed herself.
