I’m definitely a child of the 1980’s so, in honour of Boom’s Total 80’s Weekend I wanted to share with you a few things I owned as a kid in the decade of decadence.
In 1982 or 83, when everyone was buying a Walkman, I wasn’t fortunate to have enough money but, luckily there were less expensive alternatives for our portable audio entertainment needs during that time. I opted for purchasing something called Mura hi stepper FM Radio. The thing was huge! And, as you can see from the name, it only had an FM radio. No AM or cassette player. But, it sounded awesome and was all mine!!!

Right around 1984, I thought having and wearing grey, pleated pinstriped jeans was cool. It’s doubtful that if I still had them today that would still be the case. Unfortunately after a moderate amount of Googling I was unable to come up with an image of them but, take my word for it, they were definitely uniquely 1980’s.
And finally, MR MICROPHONE!!
Up until the point I got that bad boy for Christmas one year, I was relegated to playing DJ by recording my voice on tape. Then, one year, a Mr. Microphone came into my life and was finally able to actually be on the radio. Eventually I built a makeshift studio in my room and topped it off with a hand made sign on the door with the name of my station on it.
So, there you have it, a few of my favourite things I owned in the 1980’s. What were some of yours? Let me know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
